Hare Rama Hare Krishna Movement

The Hare Rama Hare Krishna movement, formally known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was founded in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Based on the ancient teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, the movement focuses on devotion to Lord Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra—Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare—is central to its spiritual practice and is believed to purify the mind and awaken divine consciousness.

ISKCON has played a significant role in spreading Vaishnavism and Indian spiritual culture across the world. With temples, cultural centres, and educational institutions in many countries, the movement promotes simple living, vegetarianism, and devotion through music, philosophy, and community service. The Hare Krishna movement continues to attract followers from diverse backgrounds, offering a path of joyful devotion, discipline, and spiritual fulfilment through love and surrender to God.
